''Mrityunjay'' is an Indian television series based on the celebrated Marathi novel by Shivaji Sawant, produced by Jamshaid Ashraf〔(Pearl Group - People )〕 and directed by Dr. Chandraprakash Dwivedi.〔('I haven’t earned anything from television’ )〕 It was telecast on Doordarshan in 1996.〔(DD serial on Lord Shiva )〕 The series takes a look at the events in the Mahabharata from the perspective of Karna, a major character in the epic. The thought was originally taken from M.M.Singh and D.K.Gupta.
Though the series garnered many awards at the 3rd Screen Videocon Awards including ''Best Serial'', ''Best Director'' (Dwivedi) and ''Best Art Direction'' (Muneesh Sappel),〔(3rd Screen Awards, 1996 )〕〔(Director special )〕〔(Art Directors gaining recognition )〕 it was abruptly terminated for unknown reasons.〔(Ravi Chopra: If DD gives us special treatment,, it's because we guarantee quality )〕
